It doubles the amount of paperwork you have to do (going from 0 to 1 employee is a lot harder than going from 1 to 2). It also puts a lot of trust in that person. What position did this first employee fill?

Best Books for Business Owners

Starting Paid Advertisement

For the past 8 years my company, Rivik Media, has always gained new clients through word of mouth and referral marketer. There would be occasional clients that found us through a search engine, but 99% were from referrals from other clients.

This has always kept us busy, so I never gave much thought to having paid advertisement. I now want to start.

Being a technology company, my first thoughts went to advertising on social media. Twitter and Facebook were the obvious choices. I’m currently running a test campaign on Twitter to see what comes of it.

As a small business owner, where do you find the best place to advertise? Do you advertise at all or depend on word of mouth? What other options should I consider beyond social media?
